2025 BCGL Banter: Week 1 Recap
Filed on September 9, 2025
CHAPTER 1, GENESIS - In the beginning, God created the [ORANGE Division] and [BROWN division]. Now the league was formless and empty, darkness was over the mock drafts and the standings. And God said, “Let there be [football], ” and there was light. God saw that it was good — maybe “more good” for six winning teams and “less good” for six losing teams — as another BCGL season got underway.
Here’s more of what happened in Week 1…
Grady’s Grunts 188.75, Da Bears 172.05
It took the Grunts seven weeks to record their first victory last season so starting the season 1-0 is a miracle of Biblical proportions. The Lord taketh away from the Grunts in 2024 so it seems fair that he giveth back to start 2025. Neither team reached their projected point total, and this was still the closest game of the week. The Grunts and Bears are built for long-term success and Week 1 was a minor blip on the season’s radar.
The Mean Machine 191.65, Poppers 164.20
Mean Machine started 2025 the same way they ended 2024 — winning. The defending champions looked to jump on the Bo Nix bandwagon and while he underperformed this week the rest of the roster picked up the slack. The Poppers were far from pitiful and will expect more from their non-QB skill players moving forward. This outcome was another middle-of-the road outing as most teams will take a couple weeks before they fire on all cylinders.
Losing INC 197.10, Uncle Rico 173.80
Losing INC turned their ship around from last season with several strong performances and minimal injuries to kick off the first week of 2025. Travis Kelce ran over his own receiver (Xavier Worthy) trying to kiss Taylor Swift and George Kittle went down for several weeks — but Losing INC got strong performances from Justin Hebert and Derrick Henry to shoulder the load. Uncle Rico’s draft doesn’t look hopeless, but he needs to watch more film to improve his league smack talk.
Underdogs 202.80, Paul & Glover Phenomenal Team 116.45
Scholars continue to examine the original text of Genesis to determine if God’s separation of the light from the darkness was a direct allusion to the distance between the Underdogs and their Week 1 opponent. There was an ocean of difference between the output from these teams as Underdogs claimed the top spot in the league. Say what you will about drafting kickers and defense, but Underdogs outkicked the competition this week!
The Pongo Pack 193.05, Braden’s Bandits 164.10
Pongo Pack stood tall this week and proved that the pre-season comparisons to Zacchaeus were premature. Josh Allen’s 67 fantasy points plus Kyler Murray’s 32 points are a great foundation to win any week in your fantasy football league. Both teams will expect more from their defenses moving forward. Only time will tell if either owner is a legitimate contender or just a bully at the kiddie table!
CMC hate club 195.45, Wall Street Journals 169.80
One year removed from the Christian McCaffrey injury tragedy of 2024 saw a much more balanced CMC hate club get off to a faster start over Wall Street Journals. Wall Street boasted a 47-point outburst from Lamar Jackson but inconsistency from the rest of the starters could not equal the even scoring across the board by CMC hate club. We hope the anger from last season doesn’t consume Caleb this year — but at least for one week he got the satisfaction of a healthy lineup.
