2025 BCGL Banter: Week 14 Recap

Filed on December 19, 2025 (very late)

ONCE UPON A TIME — The 2025 BCGL regular season closed out this week with a mix of stories and colorful characters heading in different directions. Caleb’s greatest show on digital turf and Da Bears finished 1-2 in the league on the back of consistent performances all year. Braden’s Bandits and Losing INC suffered plenty of bad luck and understandable depression as they sank in the standings. Uncle Rico might be the Cinderella story of the year after turning a 1-6 start into an 8-7 finish and the #3 team in the league. Lots of humor, hard work and hardship were part of this regular season. And now one question remains — which of these stories will get the happy ending? Let’s keep turning the pages to find out!

Here’s more of what happened in Week 14…

Pongo Pack 234.80, Grady’s Grunts 214.40
Pongo Pack channeled Vanessa Williams as they “saved their best for [the] last [week]” of the regular season. 234 points was their best score of the regular season — and it was needed to fend off another strong showing by Grady’s Grunts. The victory solidified the Pongo Pack hold on #4 in the league and assures them a shot in the top playoff bracket. Grady’s Grunts also climbed back into the playoffs with their late season surge to finish #5 in the league. Will the second-half magic continue for both of these teams? Or will it fade away?

The Mean Machine 233.30, Wall Street Journals 183.15
Mean Machine never settled into a strong rhythm this year, but they clawed their way back to 7-7 and finished #6 to end the regular season. On the other side, Wall Street Journals gave it all they had — posting a 5-2 record down the stretch — but will end up in the second-tier playoff bracket as the #8 team. The Journals found a gem in QB Daniel Jones this year but his injury in Week 14 was a critical blow. Meanwhile, Mean Machine enjoyed a breakout performance from QB Shedeur Sanders (64 pts). Is that a sign of things to come?

Uncle Rico 197.45, Poppers 167.65
The Hot or Not website was extremely popular in the early 2000s — allowing someone to scroll through photos and decide whether each person was hot or not. If it was popular today, Uncle Rico might be one of the hottest photos on the site — crushing the BCGL with a seven-game winning streak to close out the regular season. Uncle Rico started 1-6 and could have thrown in the towel. Instead, he soared with wings like Icarus all the way to the #3 spot in the league. Let’s see if he continues to fly…or gets too close to the sun!

Paul & Glover Phenomenal Team 185.75, Da Bears 135.20
Paul & Glover pulled a Christopher Cross and set their sights on smooth sailing in Week 14 against a depleted Da Bears roster. It was an uneven season for Paul & Glover but the team tread enough water to finish 7-7 for #9 in the league. Unfortunately, the #9 spot will finish outside the top playoff bracket so Paul & Glover will play for pride from this point forward. Da Bears took their lumps this week with QB Tyrod Taylor (-1 pts) but remain the #2 team with a full squad coming back to support their playoff hopes.

greatest show on digital turf 182.55, Losing INC 76.35
Caleb’s greatest show was good — but not great — as they closed out their regular season with a victory over the downtrodden Losing INC franchise. Caleb’s firm hold on the #1 spot in the league was never in jeopardy and they finished much like they started the season — on a high note. This greatest show squad is a strong contender for the 2025 BCGL trophy. Losing INC will write this season off and regroup for a better showing and much better luck in 2026. Perhaps changing their team's name would boost morale too!

Braden’s Bandits 161.25, Underdogs 143.90
Braden’s Bandits proved there was still some fight left in the dog as they finished ahead of the Underdogs in their Week 14 matchup. It was only the second victory for Braden in the last nine weeks of the season, but it must have encouraged the team to finish on a positive note. The Underdogs also experienced a second-half slump as they finished the season 1-5 in the final six weeks of the campaign. The Underdogs were dealt a bad hand once QB Patrick Mahomes (7 pts) went down with an injury. May everyone return stronger in 2026!
