2025 BCGL Banter: Week 3 Recap

Filed on September 24, 2025

KING OF THE HILL - The third week of the season saw a regression to the mean after last week’s outburst of 200+ point totals. Only three teams broke 200 pts this week and two thirds of those teams won. More importantly, there are only two owners left who look down (with disdain) upon the rest of the league. Our former commissioner Kent has always believed he was better than everyone else. However, Caleb stands head and shoulders above his peers due to his height of 6’5” and CMC hate club’s record as the only undefeated team (3-0) in the league.

Here’s more of what happened in Week 3…

Da Bears 241.85, Braden’s Bandits 218.90
It was almost a tale of Tortoise and the Hare as Da Bears jumped out to a large lead on the back of the Vikings defense (49 pts) and RB Jonathan Taylor (44 pts). Da Bears had just settled down for a long winter’s nap when QB Caleb Williams (56 pts) and RB Kenneth Walker (26 pts) made up a large portion of the deficit for Braden’s Bandits. Braden must have been beside himself watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys make Caleb Williams look like Tom Brady. Posting 218 pts and losing is no fun…but posting 241 points and winning is a blast!

Poppers 218.85, Losing INC 155.95
The Poppers recorded their first victory of the year on the back of a solid performance across the board. Led by TE Mark Andrews (35 pts) and helped by sub-par output from several Losing INC players, Kent’s victory this week was much less of a surprise than the rabbit his Cleveland Browns pulled out of their hat to beat the Green Bay Packers. The league office was also pleased that this win kept Kent’s interest for at least one more week — just long enough to collect his league dues. Cha-ching!

Paul & Glover Phenomenal Team 199.05, Grady’s Grunts 191.60
Grady’s Grunts went on a successful bear hunt in Week 1 but they’ve come up empty-handed for the past two weeks since their opening day victory. Scoring 191 pts and losing by less than ten total points is nothing that deserves more sarcasm, so we’ll save that for another week. Respect! Meanwhile, Paul & Glover are riding high on a two week win streak after proving long ago that they have the classier of the two Pauls in the league.

Pongo Pack 192.90, Underdogs 154.40
Pongo Pack has been remarkably consistent with their scoring week to week — 193.05 in Week 1, 195.10 in Week 2 and 192.90 in Week 3. They may not be tall enough to reach the 200 pt shelf just yet but Pongo Pack has managed a 2-1 record to this point. Underdogs didn’t see Pongo Pack and tripped over them on the way to Week 4. The loss knocked Underdogs to #2 in the league, but Mama said there’ll be days like this. There’ll be days like this, my Mama said.

CMC hate club 177.35, Mean Machine 162.40
The BCGL is a faith-based league so we can’t claim that CMC hate club sold their soul to the Devil for this blazing start to 2025. However, they cast out the bad spirits of 2024 and remained undefeated (3-0) while posting a rather pedestrian 177 pts. Someone finally got the best of Mean Machine even if this was a week that neither team performed at full strength. Mean Machine’s QB Geno Smith (46 pts) was the top player from either roster. That tells us a lot about how this matchup went.

Wall Street Journals 176.80, Uncle Rico 166.15
The Journals vs Uncle Rico. Ex-preacher vs ex-preacher. This was church office politics at its less than finest hour. These two teams finished the week as the #11 and #12 ranked teams in a 12-team league. This was an undercard bout before the heavyweight matches above in every sense of the word. Wall Street Journals (1-2) broke into the win column for the first time this season. Uncle Rico (0-3) is still holding firm to his “blind nil” strategy for winning a game of spades. Shh…don’t tell Uncle Rico that we haven’t dealt any cards yet.
