2025 BCGL Banter: Week 5 Recap

Filed on October 8, 2025

WELCOME TO MIAMI - The story of the Prodigal son seems fitting but doesn’t give a full Latin flavor to the festivities in Uncle Rico’s locker room. Beat reporters heard multiple Gloria Estefan classics pounding behind closed doors as the team celebrated its first win of the season with an exclamation! The players sang “Coming out of the dark” on repeat. In addition, several bystanders confirmed that owner Eric Petty danced around the room — high-fiving his players — while singing “Rhythm Rico is gonna get you! Rhythm Rico is gonna get you!” Uncle Rico’s first victory also triggered celebrations in Detroit as the 2008 Lions team popped champagne safe in the knowledge that their 0-16 season would not be challenged this year in the BCGL.

Here’s more of what happened in Week 5…

Uncle Rico 267.95, Paul & Glover Phenomenal Team 231.70
A first win of the season AND the top score of the week? Uncle Rico must have been filming an Old Milwaukee commercial because it just doesn’t get any better than this. Please drink responsibly. The most surprising fact is that QB Cooper Rush (2 pts) barely registered but the rest of Uncle Rico’s team was so strong it didn’t matter. QB CJ Stroud (55 pts) helped set the final pace thirty points ahead of a strong Paul & Glover result. We can’t find fault with Paul & Glover. Unfortunately, they ran into a buzzsaw this week.

greatest show on digital turf 249.55, Da Bears 201.85
Drake released the song “God’s Plan” back in 2018 to much notoriety. QB Drake Maye (14 pts) was apparently part of God’s plan to reward the greatest show on digital turf with another victory. Da Bears drafted the wrong Drake. Meanwhile, Caleb continued his strong hold on the #1 spot in the league as the lone undefeated team. Rumor has it that Caleb was mildly nervous last Thursday until QB Matt Stafford (52 pts) came to life. It was practically all downhill for the Da Bears from that point forward. Aargh!

Braden’s Bandits 201.75, Wall Street Journals 188.65
Braden’s Bandits are living up to their namesake as they’ve sneakily built a two-week winning streak and moved up to #5 in the league. They may not have the flare of Uncle Rico but reaching 200 pts is a healthy way to tip the odds in your favor week to week. The Miami stars must have been aligned for Gloria Estefan, Uncle Rico and QB Tua Tagvailoa (43 pts) to have such a stellar week. Wall Street got strong totals from QB Justin Fields (40 pts), RB Rico Dowdle (41 pts) and QB Daniel Jones (30 pts) but single digits from too many other starters.

Underdogs 201.50, Poppers 194.95
Any time the Underdogs and Poppers match up it’s the BCGL equivalent of the old TV sitcom The Odd Couple — two divorced men whose contrasting personalities inevitably lead to conflict and laughter. The resulting score matched that billing as Underdogs barely outfoxed the Poppers at the end of Monday Night Football. These two owners are mirror opposites of each other through five weeks — #2 Underdogs with 2W, 1L, 2W and the #11 Poppers with 2L, 1W, 2L in that order. Paula Abdul was right. Opposites attract!

The Pongo Pack 199.55, The Mean Machine 175.40
What would happen if The Pongo Pack played The Mean Machine at The Ohio State University? That’s too much “The” for one mind to process. It’s also three straight losses for The Mean Machine who have fallen on hard times. Both teams outperformed their forecasted score but Pongo Pack got a little more pep in their step via QB Josh Allen (33 pts), TE Jake Ferguson (31 pts) and RB Javonte Williams (39 pts). Don’t look now but Pongo Pack (4-1) is hanging with the big dogs as the #3 team in the league!

Grady’s Grunts 174.75, Losing INC 125.25
The Grunts were fortunate to face Losing INC as their final score of 174 points would not have beaten any other team this week. All you can do is play the opponent in front of you — which the Grunts did to collect their second win of the season. Losing INC has seen their fortunes change after a 2-0 start to the season. Injuries and zero-point performances from WR Jalen Tolbert and WR Rashod Bateman would drive any owner crazy. Collin, just remember that Uncle Rico, Poppers and Wall Street Journals are still looking up at you.
