2025 BCGL Banter: Week 8 Recap
Filed on November 9, 2025 (WAY TOO LATE)
FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE - Jim Croce famously sang in 1972 that you don’t tug on Superman’s cape and you don’t mess around with Jim. We don’t have a Jim in the league. It’s clear the Wall Street Journals didn’t have Jim Croce in their playlist either while handing Caleb’s greatest show on digital turf their first loss of the season! Both teams limped across the finish line as the Journals held the strong upper hand. Caleb’s team had run laps around the league for seven weeks straight. But their undefeated mojo finally ran out as they ran into a Wall…Street Journals… [cue the Dr. Evil grin and pinky finger]
Here’s more of what happened in Week 8…
Mean Machine 252.80, Poppers 230.45
The Mean Machine channeled their old magic for a second week while outdueling a feisty Poppers team to build a two-game winning streak. The 230 pts for the Poppers was their best mark on the season even with a pedestrian showing from QB Baker Mayfield (5 pts). RB James Cook (46 pts), QB Mac Jones (31 pts) and the Buffalo defense (28 pts) provide plenty of fireworks, but the Poppers attack fizzled out just short of victory. Mean Machine bounced back to 4-4 on the season as they try to keep their playoff hopes alive!
Da Bears 234.15, Grady’s Grunts 194.10
Da Bears said all the right things coming into this week’s contest with Grady’s Grunts. Yet many observers felt that Da Bears were looking for revenge from their Week 1 loss to the Grunts to start the 2025 season. Da Bears left no doubt in this matchup as they continued their ascent up the league standings. QB Drake Maye (47 pts) and RB Jonathan Taylor (54 pts) are the peanut butter and jelly driving Da Bears this season — so yummy! The Grunts got what they expect from QB Jalen Hurts (51 pts) but too little from his supporting cast.
Underdogs 231.50, Paul & Glover Phenomenal Team 108.30
The most phenomenal fact this week was how far the production has fallen off for Paul & Glover in back-to-back contests. Following a 4-2 start to the season, Paul & Glover have struggled to break 140 pts for two weeks and find themselves at 4-4. Sadly, their roster featured four players who didn’t play in Week 7 — RB Ashton Jeanty, RB David Montgomery, QB Jared Goff and K Joshua Karty. That’s no recipe for success. Underdogs cruised to victory in spite of 0 pts from K Matt Gay and we bet they don’t mind one bit.
Uncle Rico 213.40, Losing INC 155.35
It’s only the third time that Uncle Rico posted a score above 200 pts but the second time they won when that happens. Similar to the Bears-Grunts matchup, this game was a repeat from Week 1 when Uncle Rico lost to Losing INC to start 0-1. Uncle Rico and Losing INC have floundered this year so the outcome will do little to move the needle on the overall standings. The win lifts Uncle Rico to 2-6 on the season as we continue our office pool to see who will finish with more wins — Uncle Rico or the Miami Dolphins.
Pongo Pack 190.35, Braden’s Bandits 141.95
Round 2 of the Battle of the Bible Belt (ACU vs Harding) once again went to Pongo Pack as they reigned down hellfire and brimstone on their football opponent. Pongo Pack may walk softly but they carried a big stick into this matchup in the form of QB Josh Allen (38 pts) and WR Troy Franklin (34 pts). The most amazing fact is that Pongo Pack won with 0 points from three starters — WR Hollywood Brown, TE Jake Ferguson and WR Garrett Wilson. God must truly be on their side!
Wall Street Journals 179.00, greatest show on digital turf 111.05
Caleb has been nothing short of Superman for seven weeks. Yet, this week someone finally played the role of Lex Luthor and turned Caleb back into Clark Kent. Just one week prior, the Wall Street Journals scored 179 points and lost handily to Mean Machine. The same 179 points a week later had Wall Street Journals shining under the brightest lights as they took down the #1 team in the league. greatest show on digital turf’s 111 points was their worst outing of the year, but something tells us we won’t see that again.
